Community Lending Library – Woods Yard
Located in the Woods Yard Welfare Unit, our Community Lending Library offers a range of useful items that residents and visitors can borrow. The library is designed to make everyday equipment easily accessible and encourage sharing within the community.
You will find a variety of items available, including outerwear such as wetsuits, waterproofs and wellies, as well as beach games and other practical equipment that can be borrowed for short-term use.

Community Equipment – Wetsuits
We have a selection of wetsuits available for local use, with sizes ranging from children through to adults. These are available to help residents and visitors make the most of Stronsay’s coastline, whether you’re swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking, or enjoying other water activities.
The wetsuits are provided to support safe and accessible access to the sea, particularly during the cooler months when extra thermal protection is important. Availability may vary depending on demand, so please get in touch if you would like to check sizes or arrange to borrow one.
Community Equipment – Rain Macs & Waterproof Leggings
We also have a selection of rain macs and waterproof leggings available for local use, helping residents stay warm and dry when out and about on the island. With Stronsay’s changeable weather, having proper waterproofs can make all the difference whether you’re walking, cycling, helping at community activities, or working outdoors.
A range of sizes for both children and adults are available. These items are ideal for anyone who needs reliable waterproof clothing for a short period but may not have their own.

Community Equipment – Wellies & Flippers
For those who like to be prepared for both puddles and the sea, we also have a selection of wellies and flippers available for local use! Whether you’re heading out for a muddy walk, helping in the garden, exploring the shoreline, or feeling brave enough for a swim, we’ve got you covered from boggy fields to salty splashes.
We have a range of sizes available, so whether you need sturdy boots for keeping your feet dry on land or flippers to give you a boost in the water, you’re welcome to borrow a pair.
Because on Stronsay, you never quite know whether the day will require wellies, flippers… or possibly both!
Community Equipment – Beach Access / Off-Road Wheelchair
We have an all-terrain beach access wheelchair available for local use, designed to help make Stronsay’s shoreline and outdoor spaces more accessible to everyone. With its wide, durable wheels, it can travel more easily over sand, grass and uneven ground, allowing users to enjoy areas that might otherwise be difficult to reach.
Whether it’s a visit to the beach, a coastal outing, or simply getting closer to nature, this equipment supports inclusive access for all ages and abilities.
